Main Content
Hello, I'm David.
I'm a psychotherapist in Glasgow. I offer a warm, supportive atmosphere where you can open up, be yourself and explore what really troubles you. My therapy style is non-judgmental, empathic and authentic. You are in charge of the process, and together we'll find solutions tailored to work best for you. The therapy room is a warm, calming space filled with books, art, and two very comfy armchairs and a nice cup of tea. We might even get a visit from my cat Miss Sushi. When you're ready, I'm here to listen.
About me
I want you to feel as safe and comfortable as possible so you can focus on the therapy. I'm often told my style is very warm, authentic, open and highly empathetic. So, I usually have a strong emotional connection with my clients. We work at your own pace without any judgement and in complete confidentiality. I'm happy to work on a short-term or long-term basis.
The best results come when you are in the driving seat and I'm alongside as wingman and navigator. I can offer questions, insights and tools, but in the end only you will know what works for you. So, I always adapt the therapy to be as helpful and healing as possible for each client.
I have 35 years' experience in mindfulness and meditation practices, which is especially helpful in working with anxiety & depression.
I'm a cis gay man (pronouns he/him) who has been out for more than 35 years. Of course I welcome any types of client, but I particularly like working with LGBTQIA+ people.
- I have both theoretical knowledge and lived experience in all these areas:
- LGBTQIA+
- Gender, sexuality, relationship diversity
- Anxiety, stress & depression
- Neurodiversity, autism, ADHD
- Self-esteem & confidence
- Mindfulness, meditation, polyvagal theory
- Loneliness & isolation
- Family & attachment issues
- Emotion regulation
- Grief & loss
- Trauma, abuse & PTSD
- Addiction, substance use
- Disability, chronic illness, ableism
- Intersectionality, feminism & anti-racism
- Multiculturalism & cultural sensitivity
- Sex positive, kink aware, sex work positive
- Fatphobia & weight issues
- Don't worry if you want to bring a specific issue that's not listed here.
- We can have a free phone call or zoom chat if you've got some questions or concerns.
I like to avoid unnecessary jargon in the therapy room, but the theoretical basis of my work is Rogerian person-centred exploration. I bring in moments of insight from Psychodynamic theory; tools for change from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; and elements of Existential Therapy as well as Parts Theory or Configurations. This all follows Dr Clara Hill's Integrative model, drawing on Cooper & Norcross's Inventory of Preferences to shape the therapy for each client's needs.
Training & Qualifications
- PhD focusing on issues of gender, sexuality, race and class – but I don't use the title Dr Leddy just in case I get confused with a psychiatrist.
Professional Development & Memberships
- Oxford University, Existential Therapy
- Yale University, The Science of Wellbeing
- BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), registered member no. 01014001
